Why the name "Born in Mommy's Heart?"
In December 2001 my husband Jess, our daughter Ariana and I traveled to China to adopt our daughter Jessalyn. She was 14 months old when she was first placed in our arms. Our love for her was instant and in a moment our family of three was a family of four.
As Jessalyn grew we told her the story of how we traveled to China to adopt her. We explained to her that another mommy carried her in her tummy until she was born. When Jessalyn was a toddler she could tell you that she was born in China. When asked if she was born from mommy's tummy she would reply, "I was born in mommy's heart."
When it came time to choose a name for my website I thought and thought and then our daughter's birth story popped into my head and I knew instantly what I would name my online store.
After I returned home from adopting Jessalyn, I felt China tugging at my heart. I couldn't explain it, I just felt this huge connection to China and I felt the need to help the children who remain in orphanages and those children who struggle with poverty each and every day. In February 2003, I learned about a local Christian nonprofit that was doing incredible work in China. Threshold Ministries had sponsorship programs and was building an orphanage in Linjiang, Jilin China. I read about what they had already accomplished and I knew that I wanted to get involved in their work. In September 2003, I began to volunteer with Threshold and in November I was asked to join the board of directors. My first thought was that I would help by donating a portion of my profits to this wonderful organization. I then began to work on projects, such as obtaining an adoption art print by artist Betty Wick that could be used as a fundraiser. I continue to search out new avenues in which funds can be raised to help the children and families of Linjiang, China. Matter of fact, in October 2006 I was offered a job at Threshold and I was estatic! My work with Threshold Ministries has truly been a blessing in my life. God has a plan for us all and I know that He led me here. Please go to Threshold Ministries' website and learn more about this wonderful organization. There are so many ways that you can help make a difference in the lives of the people that live in this remote area of China.
I know that I will travel back to China again. My heart is big and not only was my love for Jessalyn born there, but China, the birthplace of our daughter, holds a very special place in my heart.
